Exciting times for PHHS athletes

This time of year is an exciting time for high school athletes. With the month of May brings the opportunities of state playoffs in track and field, girls’ soccer, baseball and golf.

In golf, senior Trey Stone is representing Pleasant Hill as I literally type this in Camdenton, Missouri at famed Old Kinderhook golf club. Trey shot the lowest score (73) in his four-year golfing career at sectionals to have the opportunity to compete in the state tournament. I’d like to congratulate Trey on all the hard work he put in to put himself in the position to play at the state tournament.

No matter the outcome of results at the state golf tournament, Trey is a champion in my book.

The Track and Field team participated in districts last weekend in Holden. The Roosters and Chicks qualified 10 athletes to move on to sectionals. Sectionals will be held this coming Saturday the 19th in Odessa. Come out to Odessa this Saturday and root on your Roosters and Chicks as they try to compete with a chance to make it to state competition. State Track and Field is in Jefferson City on May 25-26. Once an athlete makes it to state, anything can happen. Come out and show some purple pride and cheer on our athletes.

The baseball teams district game versus Warrensburg was called early on Monday, May 14, due to lighting. The game will resume Tuesday, May 15, in Odessa. The game was called in the fifth inning with score tied 3-3. If the Roosters can pull the game out, they will be playing a team that they have beaten earlier this year in the district championship game. The district championship game will be held this Thursday in Odessa. Come out and support the baseball team as they make another run in the state playoffs for the second year in a row.  As of now the location of sectionals is to be determined, but will be held on May 22. Please pay attention to the Times sports section and the Times Facebook page for updates.

The girls soccer team is gearing up for another long run into the state playoffs. This Thursday, May 17, is the district championship game in Oak Grove. Please make the short trip over and root for the Chicks as the look to win districts for consecutive years in a row. Sectionals will start May 19 and quarterfinals May 23. The sky is the limit for the Chicks, and the more support they receive the better.

This is a special time of year for spring sports. Please come out and provide support. The Roosters and Chicks dearly appreciate it.
